A Message From Our President & Our C.E.O During COVID-19

A message from the President

Amid ongoing concerns about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we want to assure you that Gateway has stepped up to assist its members and their employees as the COVID-19 pandemic puts extreme pressure on us all. We understand that this pandemic has put many of our members in a position of uncertainty and we are working to take some of that burden off you.

As your elected President, I am reaching out to you, our valued members to confirm our strong commitment to you during this time. While this remains a developing situation, Gateway continues to operate on a relatively normal basis with some adjustments to our hours of operations and the number of persons we serve in-branch at any one time, all in an effort help protect everyone as we continue to adapt.

This pandemic creeped up on us while plans were afoot to expand our operations. Preparation for the future however will continue, but at a much slower pace as your Credit Union endeavour to make prudent fiscal decisions. We have embarked on a number of projects that will enhance our service delivery to you, our valued members.

In short order, our Church Street Head office location will be renovated and transitioned to a full branch office with updated facilities. The use of technology and all relevant platforms are featured highly in our plans to bring service to you more efficiently and at a lower cost. We want to use technology to effectively drive the Credit Union and provide online services to our members; as such, we will be upgrading our current operating software to a state-of-the-art software to serve you better- from anywhere, anytime. We will further be establishing two additional branch offices at Fairview Montego Bay and Falmouth Trelawny in order to extend our services throughout our bond. Further details about our plans will be communicated at our next Annual General Meeting.

Prevention is still our main focus and on behalf of the Board of Directors we are encouraging all of you to take every precaution necessary to stay healthy. This too shall pass and your GATEWAY will be here moving you to higher financial altitudes. In God we trust. Be Safe.

A message from the C.E.O

Presently Jamaica, and by extension the world, is grappling with a problem of enormous scale and human impact, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19). We know the stakes are incredibly high for all of you. Your lives and your livelihoods are intertwined with your businesses or place of employment, and your economic future may now feel threatened.  So, we feel enormous empathy and care for you, knowing that we are all in this together.

At Gateway, we believe it is our responsibility during this time to prioritize two things: the health and well-being of our members and staff while also playing a constructive role in supporting the decisions made by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and government leaders as they work to contain the virus. Through that lens, we will continue to make decisions with vigilance in keeping with the national response and guided by our Mission, Vision and Values.

Gateway has taken a number of proactive steps to assist our members in dealing with the severe economic impacts of the COVID-19; let’s talk about what Gateway is doing to help you:

With effect from March 19, 2020 and until May 31, 2020, Gateway has put the following in place:

  1. Three (3) month’s moratorium (payment holiday)

  2. Waiver of all late charges for three (3) months

  3. Penalty breaks on all savings (Partners, Fixed Deposits and Golden Harvest)

  4. Waiver of transfer fees (internal) from Share accounts to main deposits

  5. Lifting of five (5) days hold on cheque

We will continue to closely monitor the situation and will communicate any additional measures necessary to support you and the communities we serve as needs arise. "We know that this is a fluid situation and we will closely monitor any developments that could continue to negatively impact our members across the County. We wish to achieve normalcy in short order and your Gateway stand ready to review all our existing initiatives to ensure that our members needs are met as we hold your hand through these harsh economic times.

We pray for you and your families’ safety during this time and God’s mercy on all of us.

Your CEO
