  • Notice to the Members on Resolution for Amalgamation of Gateway Co-Operative Credit Union (2017) Limited with EduCom Co-Operative Credit Union (2017) Limited

    Whereas The Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited has over 78,547 members and assets of over $13.16 Billion as at December 31, 2023 and Whereas EduCom Co-operative Credit Union Limited has over 92,000 members and assets of over $15.21 Billion as at December 31,2023 and Whereas both Credit Unions can benefit from the pooling of resources and the resultant economies of scale Be it resolved that the Special General Meeting of the EduCom Co-operative Credit Union Limited agreed that the Credit Union shall be amalgamated with the Gateway  Co-operative Credit Union(2017) Limited  as long as the members of that Credit Union agree on the following conditions: The name of the amalgamated society shall be decided by both Credit Unions. The effective date of amalgamation and registration of the amalgamated Society shall be January 1, 2025 The rules of the amalgamated societies shall be decided on by both Credit Unions and approved by the Registrar Co-operative Societies and Friendly Societies. The Registered Head Office of the amalgamated Society shall be decided by both Credit Unions and shall be included in the new rules. All members of each of the amalgamating societies Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited and EduCom Co-operative Credit Union Limited when the resolution of amalgamation is registered shall be members of the amalgamated society each of whom respectively shall have recorded in the books of the amalgamated society the like amounts of shares, loans, deposits, dividends and interest as are shown in his/her account in the books of the society of which he or she is a member at the date of such registration. The amalgamated society shall be credited with all the assets of Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited and EduCom Co-operative Credit Union Limited at the date of registration and shall undertake all the obligations affecting both of the said Credit Unions at such date. The Board of Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited duly appointed by its members shall be given the right to assume all responsibilities to ensure that the regulatory financial, accounting and operating standards of the Co-operative movement are duly adhered to in discharging this obligation. The interim Board of Directors, Supervisory and Credit Committees shall be decided by both Credit Unions and approved by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies and Friendly Societies until the first Annual General meeting of the amalgamated Credit Union.

    On Monday August 28th, twenty (20) students were awarded the Enid Gonsalves P.E.P Scholarship by the Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited. The total amount issued under the program was Seven Hundred And Forty Thousand Dollars ($740,000.00). Sharing in the moment are: Left - Nicole Haughton, Marketing & Communications Manager, Mrs. Tova-Malka Anderson. Far right, CEO, Mr. Ornell Bedasse. Our commitment to education and community empowerment drives us to celebrate and encourage academic excellence.     In a move that demonstrates our commitment to supporting the educational pursuits of young and promising minds, the Gateway Co-operative Credit Union (2017) Limited awarded the Herman Johnson and Bayley Haye Tertiary Scholarships/Bursaries to nine students on September 20th, 2023. The total funds committed to these scholarships? One Million, Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,400,000.00) Jamaican Dollars. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and hope for the future. These scholarships not only provide financial relief for the recipients but also emphasize the importance of higher education and the belief that our youth are indeed the leaders of tomorrow.     Last Saturday, the Montego Bay Boys and Girls Club was filled with excitement and energy as the much-anticipated final of the Western Business House Netball Competition took place. Gateway Co-Operative Credit Union, the proud sponsor of the event, was thrilled to witness an exhilarating match that culminated in the crowning of the Teachers' team as the champions. The Teachers' outstanding performance and sharp shooting secured them a well-deserved victory, triumphing with a score of 32-24 over the formidable Sandals team. The Teachers' team displayed their prowess on the court, led by the remarkable Amayla Stewart, whose sharpshooting skills left spectators in awe. As the final whistle blew, and the Teachers were declared the winners on July 8th 2023, Gateway Co-Operative Credit Union was delighted to present them with the championship trophy. Nicole Haughton-Johnson, representing the credit union, beamed with pride as she handed over the trophy to the triumphant team. But the road to victory was not an easy one, and both teams fought fiercely for the title. Sandals demonstrated impressive skills and contributed significantly to the high-class final match. In recognition of their outstanding performance, Sandals received their well-earned runners-up trophy from the credit union's beaming representative, Nicole Haughton-Johnson. We would like to inform all interested individuals that both the Herman Johnson and the Bayley Haye Scholarships have no specific restrictions on the course of study. It is crucial to note the following application deadlines: PEP Scholarship: The deadline for submitting applications for the PEP Scholarship is July 28. If you or someone you know is a PEP student, be sure to apply before this date to be considered for this opportunity. University Scholarships: For those aspiring to receive a scholarship for university studies, the deadline is August 31. The momentous event brought together esteemed medical professionals, dedicated hospital administrators, and representatives from Gateway Credit Union, underscoring their shared commitment to the well-being of the community. The handover ceremony was graced by an impressive lineup of medical experts, administrative staff, and representatives from Gateway Credit Union. Among the notable attendees were Dr. Ei Choi, a seasoned medical doctor renowned for their expertise, and Mr. Conroy Ward, the General Manager of Retail Operations at GCCUL (Gateway Credit Union). Mrs. Sebrena Dobson-Dunn, the esteemed Hospital Administrator, and Dr. Kerri-Ann McKenzie, an esteemed Consultant Paediatrician, also participated in the momentous occasion. Understanding Your Credit Report: Insights from Mr. Christopher Brown During the event, Mrs. Nicole Haughton-Johnson, the Marketing and Communications Manager at Gateway Credit Union, highlighted the importance of financial literacy and introduced the speakers. Mr. Christopher Brown, drawing upon his extensive experience in Jamaica and the Caribbean, shed light on the significance of credit bureaus in developing economies. Family Critical Illness Plan

The Family Critical Illness Plan is hinged on providing timely support to individuals and their loved ones. The Family Critical Illness Plan provides up to $3,000,000 in critical illness coverage for Heart Attack, Stroke, Major Burns, Cancer, Paralysis and Coma.

This plan covers the Certificate holder and five other eligible family members.

Critical Illness Rider

You would be able to sign up for the Critical Illness Rider once you have enrolled in a Family Indemnity Plan and have not reached the age of 60. You would also have to have the family indemnity plan.

Family Indemnity Plan

This is an insurance plan that focuses on helping your loved ones cope, by making it easier to access funds for your loved ones’ final arrangements.
